Second Ice Skating lesson








Today we learnt how to dance the Cha Cha, skate the duck with our knees bent and slide stops. Some of us can now do the Giraffe glide and the 2feet jump. Can you tell which one we are doing in the photos?

Week 5 Homework

We have a very busy week with ice skating and our Snow Farm Day on Thursday.
Homework this week is to name and describe a superhero. Be ready share your superhero on Friday. If you have a picture or drawing this will help you share your ideas.

On Thursday you need to be at school by 7.55am with your clothing and plenty of food and drink for our big day. We will be back at school by 5pm.

Week 4

This week we start our Ice Skating lessons. We will skate every Tuesday at 9.30am. Come to school in your ice skating clothes. Don't forget your helmet, gloves and warm water proof clothing. Thanks to all those parents who have offered to help we will leave school about 9.10am.
This week is Maths Week. For homework you need to go on to this site http://www.mathsweek.org.nz/
Type in your password and play the games. Try to complete some challenges eah day and you will earn some points.
News this week is "a time when I felt...." We will use these ideas in our writing.
Remember to bring a water bottle each day. Water is essential for our thinking.

Term 3

Welcome back to Term 3.
I hope you all had a nice holiday.
This term our topics are Recycle and Reuse which will lead into making our own music and dance using discarded materials. We will be collecting these over the next few weeks. If you are throwing out an object that could create a sound please save it for us e.g large tins, wooden handles or brushes.

Year 3 students will be ice skating during week 4, 5 and 6 for 1 hour each week. Room 17 will ice skate on Tuesday’s at 9.30am. They will also visit the Snow Farm for one day of cross country skiing in Week 5 on 19th August. (This may change depending on weather conditions)

If children wish to play on the field at lunchtime can they please have a change of clothes in their bags.

Homework will continue in the same format- Monday to Friday.

We are learning about recycle and reuse this week.This Thursday we are making a desk tidy or money box from reused material. The students are designing them at school but need to collect reused items from home to bring to make their creation.

Week 11

This is the final week of Term 2. We have 4 students leaving on Friday to go to the new Remarkables School. We are having a shared lunch on Friday to farewell them. Bring a plate of food to share with the class at 12.15 on Friday.
Homework this week is a time sheet, remember to check your clock at home so you can keep practising telling the time.
Those that did not do spelling sentences last week in your homework book need to complete this by Friday using last weeks words.

Book Parade

Book Week Changes and Skipping

Due to Wednesday being a Snow Day we will have a Grandad/Dad's reading afternoon next week. I will send a note home with the date and time.
Room 17 are visiting the Queenstown Library on Friday at 11.10am arriving back to school for the book parade at 11.45. We will have a normal assembly at 2.20pm.
Next Tuesday at 11.30am Year 3's are having a Jump Rope Celebration. We will meet on the tennis courts to show our skipping moves we have been practising this term. Parents are welcome to come and watch. The students are collecting sponsors and the proceeds are going to the Heart Foundation who support us with skipping ropes and resources.

Book Week - Margaret Mahy

Week 10 is Book Week. Room 17 is spending the week reading Margaret Mahy books. We will be doing activities about the author and her characters.
Homework this week will be all about books. There are a selection of activities in your homework book. Try to complete one each night.
On Friday is our Book parade at 11.45am. You may dress as any book character for the day.
Parents if you would like to come and read to the class we would love you to visit us on Wednesday afternoon 2 -2.30pm.
News is sharing your favourite book to the class.
It should be a great week.

After we interviewed Annette we made some freeze frames to show what we had learnt about our school 40-50 years ago.

Winter Mud

To keep our classroom mud free it would be great if you could bring in some spare slippers or indoor shoes from home that you can leave at school. If you like to play on the field can you have a spare of pants in your bag to change into after lunch.

This week we are sharing what we know about the solar system in our news time. For homework there is nightly reading and learning your spelling words This week we are looking at time in Maths.

Week 7

Room 17 have had a great week discussing music. We have listened to different styles and shared our favourite songs. Over the next week we are looking at manners. Ask your Mum,Dad or Grandparents about manners when they were your age and bring this to share with the class.
We are entering our daily steps(using our pedometers) into the soccer website and travelling around South Africa on the web. If you want to look at home go to www.mygreatestfeat.org.nz and put in your own name and password(these are in your homework books).

Today is Crazy Hair Day. We all brought $2.00 to school to support the World Vision.

Week 4

This week Room 17 will be interviewing Isaak's Grandma Annette, who has been in Queenstown for 40 years. We have written our own questions and will record these and her answers to send to the Arrowtown museum. This is part of the Arrowtown Museum's "Speaking of Change Exhibition" which will be showing in July. If you or your family have anything that would be of interest to do with this topic, we would love to hear or see items that may help us learn more about life in the Wakatipu 40-60 years ago.
News this week is sharing something from the last 100 years. It can be from anywhere in the world and on any topic.
Homework is a maths sheet, spelling words and reading each night.

Kahura Dance Group

The Kahura Dance Group performed for our school on Tuesday. They showed through music and dance the journey of the Maori people through the Pacific Islands to New Zealand. See if you can explain to your families which Pacific Island each of these costumes comes from.
